The Knights are the heart of the Bretonnian Army; a Knight of Bretonnia would rather die with honor than live without it. Bretonnian Knights live to uphold the virtues of chivalry and honor. They are driven less by personal glory than to fulfill the ideals of the people of Bretonnia.

Knights Errant

These Knights-in-Training should not be underestimated. If used wisely, they can be deadly warriors. Perhaps owing to their youth, these Knights can be somewhat brash. Knights Errant are Impetuous, which may make them difficult to control and prone to charge, but has the benefit of making the Immune to Psychology for the rest of the turn.

  • A unit of Knights Errant should include between 5-15 men.
  • Knights Errant carry: Hand Weapon, Lance, and Heavy Armour & Shield.
  • Their Mount is a Barded Bretonnian Warhorse.
  • With Knights Errant, you have the option to upgrade to a Musician for +7, or a Standard Bearer for +14.
  • Units also have the option to carry a magic banner worth up to 25 points.
  • Each unit of Knights Errant must have at least one Bannerman, Musician or Lord.

Knights of the Realm

A Bretonnian Army is not complete with out at least one Unit of Knights of the Realm. Although all the Knights listed on this page can be considered "Knights of Bretonnia" true Knights of the Realm have helms and borders around their heraldic devices. (link to forthcoming heraldry info page)

  • Each Unit of Knights of the Realm should include between 5-15 pieces.
  • They carry as their Equipment: Hand Weapon, Lance, Heavy Armour & Shield.
  • Their Mount is the Barded Bretonnian Warhorse.
  • For every Unit, one Knight of the Realm must be upgraded to a Gallant at no additional cost.
  • With Knights of the Realm, you have the option to upgrade one Knight of the Realm to a Musician for +8 or to upgrade one Knight to a Standard Bearer for +16 points.
  • Knights of the Realm also have the option to carry a magic banner worth up to 25 points.

Special Rules: The Knight's Vow, Purebred Warhorse.

Questing Knights

Questing Knights are the on their first mission to becoming Grail Knights. Questing Knights are Special Units, which are less common than Core Units. These Knights are highly regarded heroes whose main goal is their quest for the holy Grail and marital perfection.

  • Each Unit of Questing Knights should have between 5-12 pieces.
  • They carry for Equipment: Hand Weapon, Great Weapon, and Heavy Armour & Shield.
  • Their Mount is the Barded Bretonnian Warhorse.
  • In each unit of Questing Knights, one must be upgraded to a Paragon at no additional cost.
  • Each Unit of Questing Knights has the option to upgrade one Knight to a Musician for +9 points, or to upgrade one Knight to a Standard Bearer for +18 points.
  • Each Unit of Questing Knights may carry a magic banner worth up to 50 points.

Special Rule: The Questing Vow, Purebred Warhorse

Pegasus Knights

Pegasus Knights are the strongest and fastest of all Knights of the Realm.

Grail Knights

Grail Knights are Rare Units and are only seen in small numbers. Grail Knights are revered as living saints. They are devastatingly powerful and are "touched by the power of the Lady of the Lake."

  • Each Unit of Grail Knights should be between 3-12 pieces.
  • For Equipment they carry: Hand Weapon, Lance, Heavy Armour and Shield.
  • Their Mount is the Barded Bretonnian Warhorse.
  • Units of Grail Knights have the option to upgrade one Knight to a Musician for +10 points, or one Knight to a Standard Bearer for +20 points.
  • Units of Grail Knights may carry a magic banner worth up to 50 points.

Special Rules: The Grail Vow, Living Saints, Purebred Warhorse.

Lords

Lords are powerful Nobles (including earls, barons, and dukes) and Knights who are excellent war generals. A Bretonnian Army can greatly benefit from a Lord, however Lords cannot be used in battle with armies of less than 2,000 points. With 2,000 or more point, 1 Lord may be used. With 3,000 or more point armies, 2 Lords may be used. With 4,000 or more point armies, 3 Lords may be used. After this, one Lord may be added for every additional +1,000 points in an army.

  • Bretonnian Lords carry as their Equipment: Hand Weapon & Heavy Armour.
  • Their default Mount is the Barded Bretonnian Warhorse, which he must purchase for +21 points.
  • Bretonnian Lords have the option to carry a morning star for +3 points. If the Lord possesses the Knights Vow or the Grail Vow, he may carry a lance for +6 points. If a Lord possesses the Questing vow, he may choose a great weapon for +6.
  • Bretonnian Lords may choose to carry a sword for +3 points.
  • Bretonnian Lords may upgrade to ride the Hippogryph for +200 points, or a Royal Pegasus for +50 points.
  • Bretonnian Lords may choose a mix of magic items and virtues totaling a combined maximum of 100 points.

Heroes

Heroes are powerful, highly ranked nobles (such as earl or baron) or warriors (such as marshal or warden). These powerful fighters make excellent leaders for units of Knights. For these purposes, there are two types of Heroes: the Paladin and the Damsel of the Lady.

Paladin

The Paladin possesses the Knight's Vow. He may choose to replace this vow with the Questing Vow for +8 points, or the Grail Vow for an additional 21 points.

  • Paladins carry as their Equipment: Hand Weapon & Heavy Armour
  • Paladin's may choose a morning star for +2 points. If a Paladin possesses the Knight's Vow or the Grail Vow, he may choose to carry a lance for +4 points. If he has upgraded to the Questing Vow, he may choose a great weapon for +4. He may also carry a shield for 2 additional points.
  • Paladins may choose the Barded Bretonnian Warhorse for +14 points, or they may choose as their mount the Royal Pegasus for +50 points.
  • Paladins may choose a mix of magic items and virtues totaling a combined maximum of 50 points.

Damsel of the Lady

Damsels of the Lady are magical practitioners who are highly respected throughout Bretonnia. They are trained by the Fey Enchantress herself and are useful for both attacks against the foe (with Fey magic) and to help protect your army from hostile spells. A Damsel is a level 1 wizard. This piece can use spells from the Lore of Beasts or Life.

  • Damsel of the Lady carry as their Equipment the Hand Weapon.
  • A Damsel may be upgraded to a Level 2 Wizard for only 35 additional points.
  • A Damsel may choose as her Mount the Bretonnian Warhorse for +10 points. Barding may be added for +4 points.
  • Damsels may choose a mix of magic items and virtues totaling a combined maximum of 50 points, but may not use magic weapons or magic armor.
